Professor Cekirge has vast experience in mathematical and environmental modeling and has published eighty refereed articles and reports, in this regard for both academia and industry. Immediately before joining CUNY, Prof. Cekirge worked on reservoir modeling problems of the oil industry. Prior to that position, he was employed by the Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Institute at Florida State University. In that capacity, he coordinated environmental modeling and engineering efforts, developed a data acquisition and environmental database system for environmental projects, and designed three-dimensional hydrodynamic models of various marine bodies, all of which are currently used in remediating oil pollution and other contamination in those marine environments. Additionally, Prof. Cekirge optimized standard plume and air dispersion models to simulate air pollution events around gas-oil separation plants and oil refineries and developed oil spill modeling studies.
