Research Interests:
Shock and Expansion Wave Interactions with Turbulence.
Development of new experimental techniques to measure fluid mechanical quantities.
Dr. Xanthos has had almost 6 years of teaching experience since he was assigned a teaching position from the first year of his graduate work at The City college of New York. He has been receiving amongst the highest of evaluation for his teaching abilities and was awarded the Arthur S. Goldstein Award for Outstanding Teaching award in 2001. Dr. Xanthos defended his Ph.D Thesis titled "Interaction of Grid Generated Turbulence with Expansion Waves". He has developed multiple hotwires probes; one of them being a unique subminiature probe consisting of 12 hotwires to measure three-dimensional vorticity in fine scales of turbulence for the first time while investigating the effects of expansion waves on the structure of turbulence. He has also participated in a variety of other projects most of which are listed under the Experimental Fluid Mechanics and Aerodynamics Laboratory web site.
